Revealing PCB’s 3 Core Demands That ICC Rejected Amid T20 World Cup Boycott

T20 World Cup

Pakistan’s boycott drama against India in the group stage fixtures of the T20 World Cup 2026 has finally come to an end.

The high-profile clash is finally set to take place after a long period of suspense. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) rejected three of five core demands proposed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

Let’s take a look at Pakistan’s demands, which include the resumption of the IND vs PAK bilateral series that the Jay Shah-led ICC rejected.

1. Tri Series Involving India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh

  • Condition: PCB suggested ICC to organize tri series where Pakistan could play alongside India and Bangladesh.
  • ICC’s Rejection: The global governing body turned down the request, stating that the power to host a series requires permission from the participating nation’s government.

Additionally, ICC must take into consideration the commitments of broadcasters, commercial interests, and the workload management of the players.

2. Resumption of India vs Pakistan Bilateral Series

  • Condition: After the 2012-13 season, Pakistan is keen to resume the bilateral series against India.
  • ICC’s Rejection: As per the ICC’s Future Tours Programme (FTP), the bilateral series in cricket is a long-term, pre-planned schedule where all full member nations are allocated regular fixtures.

Most importantly, organizing the India-Pakistan bilateral series requires the government’s decision. Due to the high level of political interference, ICC stated that it would be unlikely to resume such a demand without discussing it first with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

3. Request For India’s White Ball Tour of Bangladesh

  • Condition: PCB demanded that ICC ensure India tour Bangladesh for the limited-overs series.
  • ICC’s rejection: The series between India and Bangladesh purely depends on the decision of both nations’ governments. So, ICC has no authority to organize the series without consulting the Indian and Bangladeshi cricket boards.

PCB’s Additional Demands To Be Fulfilled?

With ICC rejecting PCB’s three key demands, the other two are taken into consideration, which include:

1. Organize a Compensatory ICC Event for Bangladesh:

Following Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 exit, PCB requested to compensate Bangladesh with an alternative ICC event.

The global governing body promised to consider the demand in the next Under-19 World Cup cycle.

2. Cancel The Financial Penalty on Bangladesh:

PCB requested ICC not to impose any severe financial penalties on Bangladesh after forfeiting the T20 World Cup 2026.

However, the ICC clarified its stance that it was its decision not to penalize the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), considering it a first-time offence.

Also, the global governing body clarified that the compensation wouldn’t be in the form of cash by promising that Bangladesh’s share from ICC earnings would remain the same.

As a result, this decision mitigates the geopolitical tensions in the international cricket arena.

What About Pakistan’s Increase in ICC’s Revenue Share?

ICC denied increasing Pakistan’s annual distribution share by around $34.5 million. This is because a sudden surge would prompt other core nations like Australia, England, and South Africa to demand an increase in their share.

Most importantly, ICC is conscious not to alter any financial models in the ongoing media rights cycle till 2027.

In simpler terms, the Jay Shah led international cricket council is reluctant to change the fixed financial system just for one nation.

‘End to No Handshake Policy’: Former Pakistan Skipper Demands Sportsmanship

Mohammed Hafeez, the former captain of the Pakistan men’s team, hoped to promote sportsmanship by putting an end to the no-handshake policy. Here is what the 45-year-old had to say as he fears about the repeat of the Asia Cup 2025 controversy:

“See! There has always been fear whenever there is a talk about the India-Pakistan match. But I have been a fan of this rivalry, which inspires fans all over the world.

Hopefully, this match will happen without any controversies. Remember, this is not just a game, but the emotion of all fans.

All I request is to ensure the proceedings of the India-Pakistan match are covered on a regular basis, without involving political issues forever.

Both nations should adhere to fulfilling their responsibilities and promote the game. I believe cricket should progress without any political interference.

Next, we should maintain the integrity and spirit of the sport, particularly during the India-Pakistan match, no matter what scenario occurs.

Whenever this match is played, if scheduled on the 15th, every player should take the field with complete sportsmanship.

To be frank, we don’t want the repeat of Asia Cup 2025, and if it happens, I’d prefer not to watch the game,” Hafeez said.

So far, there has been no confirmation whether India will continue with its no-handshake policy or not. But, fans hope that the India vs Pakistan match will take place smoothly without any big controversies.
