Has BCCI Finalized the Indian Squad for the upcoming Sri Lankan Tour in 2024?

NO! The BCCI is yet to announce the complete squad for the upcoming T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma who announced his T20I retirement in the previous month, might probably miss the ODI series, along with his teammates Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah.

Also, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja have retired from the T20 format after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 finals in Barbados.

It is expected that Hardik Pandya could be the main contender to become the new T20I skipper, whereas KL Rahul might lead the men-in-blue for the three ODI matches in the series.

Probably, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Shreyas Iyer might be a part of the ODI squad for the IND vs SL fixture, after being rested for the South African series in the previous year. Although the 29-year-old right-handed batter scored 500-plus runs in the , he lost his central contract from BCCI after missing out on the Ranji Trophy matches earlier this year.

Has SLC announced the Sri Lankan Squad for the forthcoming series against India in 2024?

NO! The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Board hasn’t finalized the full squad for the white-ball home series against India.

Also, the Sri Lankan team will be led by a new skipper following the resignation of Wanindu Hasaranga on 11th July 2024 (Thursday). However, the SLC is yet to announce the name of their new captain, who will take the responsibility of leading the team in the forthcoming bilateral series against Team India.

Conclusion:

After the T20 World Cup 2024, there would certainly be a split captaincy for the white ball format (T20I and ODI squads). If Hardik Pandya is rested for the T20I series, then Suryakumar Yadav is the best choice for Team India’s captain in this format.

Despite the absence of several top class and experienced players, India has shown their strength and potential by including young talents in the squad and achieving victories in both the T20I and ODI series. Similarly, the upcoming tour promises to be an important one for both teams to witness an era of transition and experimentation.

Also, it is Gautam Gambhir’s first assignment as the Indian cricket team’s head coach and takes over the role from Rahul Dravid, whose tenure concluded after the T20 World Cup 2024. Team India under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, recently won the 5-match T20I series against Zimbabwe with 4-1. Finally, it would be interesting to watch how many players from Zimbabwe’s tour will seal a spot in the squad for the upcoming white ball series (3 T20Is and 3ODIs) against Sri Lanka
