Delays Mar Celebratory End to Asia Cup 2025
The final game had fans at the edge of their seat, with some Team India players admitting immense pressure from Pakistan’s cricketers during the encounter. India braved all odds to win the final game, but the award ceremony was not the end fans expected to such a high-stakes tournament.
Clear organisational lapses were evident, as both teams waited for over an hour before the award ceremony officially began. Most fans had already left before organisers began setting up the awards podium, and the event assumed a dull climax from that moment onward.
Several delays before the ceremony’s start appeared to anger both sets of players, with the Pakistan team opting to leave early. The winning side also had a unique response to delays, as they declined to publicly receive the trophy they won moments earlier.
BCCI Secy Lauds Team for Snubbing ACC Chairman
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Devajit Saikia backed his countrymen for refusing to receive the Asia Cup title after winning it:
“We have decided not to take the Asia Cup trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the main leaders of Pakistan,” Mr. Saikia said.
Mr. Mohsin Naqvi is the current head of Asia’s cricket governing body and chairs Pakistan’s board too. India have made their stance clear throughout the tournament by refusing to exchange handshakes with Pakistani players and officials. Their boycott of the trophy presentation is a direct result of Naqvi’s presence at the ceremony.
