India’s Big Chances to Win Champions Trophy 2025 Even Without Bumrah: Michael Clarke’s Opinion

Champions Trophy 2025 India

Undoubtedly, Jasprit Bumrah is of great value to the Indian Cricket team. His absence is a huge loss to the team’s virtue and spirit. Former Australia skipper Michael Clarke expressed his view, saying that India will certainly miss the talented pacer. At the same time, he reiterated that despite their bowling superstar being absent, the Indian team will still enter the Champions Trophy as favorites.

Having analyzed the Indian squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Clarke stated that Bumrah’s absence might be just a loss of presence and not victory. However, he pointed out that the Rohit Sharma-led side is still the favorite to win the most anticipated eight-nation tournament.

The much-awaited ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to begin on February 19 (Wednesday). Team India is set to compete against Bangladesh on February 20 (Thursday). And, the next match will be played against Pakistan on February 23 (Sunday) before India locks horns with New Zealand on March 02 (Sunday). India is set to play all its matches at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Having whitewashed England by 3-0 in the recently concluded ODI series, India will enter the Champions Trophy with a winning percentage of more than 75% which is considered the best among all teams.

Rohit Sharma will be the Captain of India for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025!

What if favorites and disappointments are blended together? It is exactly what is going to happen with the Indian National Squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Everybody’s favorite, the Hitman, Rohit Sharma will captain the team, but the disappointment is Jasprit Bumrah’s absence.

During Bumrah’s absence, Harshit Rana was roped into the team and will be the third fast bowler after the premier pacers Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh. Also, India in addition has a lineup of five great spin bowlers — Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar, and Varun Chakravarthy.

Batting Unit of Indian Team for ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Not just the bowling order, but also the batting unit of India seems to be super-solid for CT 2025. Captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Shubman Gill will be the opening batsman of the innings. And, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya will play in the next positions one after the other. Hence, it is quite fair to say the bowling and batting unit are strong enough to win the tournament if the players perform with their complete potential.

Michael Clarke about the Indian Squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

It couldn’t have been much more satisfying than having the key Indian players back in their form. Michael Clarke picked India as the favorite for the ICC mega event of Champions Trophy 2025 and here is what he said:

“Certainly! There is no doubt that India will miss Jasprit Bumrah. It is definitely a huge loss, but once look at that squad, it is so strong and solid. I believe India are the favorites despite Bumrah’s absence for Champions Trophy 2025,” the 43-year-old said.

He stated the above lines during a cricket podcast in ‘Beyond23’ and he further added:

“Yeah! You need to see that Shubman Gill is in great form, Rohit Sharma scored a century a couple of matches ago, so he is also back to his form. And, I still feel convinced that they are the favorites to triumph in the ICC Champions Trophy, 2025,” the former Aussie cricketer voiced his opinion.

In addition, Michael named a player who would mark a difference for India this time. He says that Hardik Pandya is a great all-rounder and team India’s ‘x factor’.

“See! In my opinion, I feel India missed through the Australian summer, Hardik Pandya is a great player with potential. He is certainly an X-factor for Team India, and I believe he (Hardik) is going to have a huge tournament. Therefore, I am re-confirming my statement that India is the favorite, and they are in my top four,” Clarke added.

Conclusion

Michael Clarke’s words during the cricket podcast on Beyond23 add immense happiness to the Indians. As he said, it was challenging for him, and he could not work out the best 11 of the Indian squad. The reason is India has various permutations and Michael is unaware of who is going to play. According to the ex-Aussie middle order batter, Bumrah’s absence could be just one downside, whereas the entire squad without him would also be the favorites to win the Champions Trophy 2025.
