IPL 2025 Confirmed To Be Played From March 14 To May 25: BCCI Reveals Schedule For Next Three Seasons

IPL 2025

The BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has taken a major step in announcing the schedule for the next three seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2025, 2026 and 2027. It is confirmed that the forthcoming 18th season will take place between 14th March 2025 (Friday) to 25th May 2025 (Sunday).

The early disclosure of the league’s schedule improves stability and advanced strategic planning for the participating teams as well as the players.

Based on the recently released schedule, all three seasons will be held from March to May and the finals to be played on Sundays.

This is the first time in the IPL history that the BCCI has revealed the dates of three seasons early. Perhaps, the world’s richest cricketing board plans to indicate all other nations to plan their schedule accordingly to avoid clashes with the rich-cash league’s fixtures.

Compared to the previous years’ tradition of waiting until the last moment to release the schedule, the BCCI and IPL officials have decided to make a unique transition that clearly defines the international cricket timetable.

However, the match count for the IPL 2025 remains the same as that of the previous season. Furthermore, the latest reports confirm that several overseas players (except Pakistani cricketers) have received approval from their corresponding cricket boards to participate in the subsequent editions of the IPL till 2027.

Meanwhile, BCCI confirms England bowler Jofra Archer’s inclusion as the 575th shortlisted player two days before the start of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Overall, the number of players participating in the auction pool increased from 574 to 577 with the inclusion of other two cricketers from the USA and India.

IPL 2025-27 Schedule: Starting and Completing Dates

Recently, the BCCI announced the schedules for the forthcoming three seasons, and all the franchises were officially informed about the following timelines on November 22 (Friday) morning:

SeasonStarting Date and DayCompleting Date and Day

2026March 15 (Sunday)May 31 (Sunday)
2027March 14 (Sunday)May 30 (Sunday)

Is the Number of Matches Shortened in IPL 2025?

YES! Although the IPL 2025 features 74 matches similar to the previous three seasons, an overall count of 10 matches has been reduced in the forthcoming season when comparing the information provided in the 2022 tender document of media rights for the 2023-27 cycle.

According to the document, each IPL season should have staged the below-mentioned number of games for five different seasons in the ongoing cycle:

  • 2023 and 2024: 74 matches.
  • 2025 and 2026: 84 matches.
  • 2027: 94 matches.

It is understood that the IPL officials have decided to continue with the 74-match model for the 2025 season, which differs from the earlier plan. The decision to proceed with the same structure highlights the importance of balancing the logistics, players’ workload, and engagement rate of the viewers.

Jofra Archer Set to Participate in IPL 2025

Having originated from Barbados, Jofra Archer is expected to play all the matches for the entire IPL 2025 season. The English bowler clarified that he will participate in all three seasons of the present cycle.

Due to an elbow injury, the 29-year-old pacer played only four matches for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2023 season. Whereas in the previous season, Jofra didn’t feature in any of the matches and withdrew himself from the IPL 2024 auction to prioritize his return to test cricket.

Even though Archer’s base price for the 2025 auction isn’t confirmed, it is clear that he might be categorized among the list of other high-profile players entering the bidding event with an INR 2 crore rating.

However, the franchises would be able to acquire him only after the 116 players have been named during the mega auction.

In addition, the Indian-born American pace bowler Saurabh Netravalkar and uncapped Indian wicketkeeper-batter Hardik Tamore registered as the 576th and 577th players for the two-day auction event.

Conclusion:

After scrutinizing the starting and completion dates of the IPL 2026 and 2027 season, it becomes clear that the number of matches can easily be increased as the league is scheduled for nearly ten-and-a-half weeks.

To ensure that every edition of IPL is carried out for 2 and half months (10 and half weeks), BCCI plans to increase the number of matches. Observing the timelines set advanced, there are possibilities for the league’s matches to increase per season.

Finally, the well-organized windows and consistent format of the schedule guarantee the next seasons of the IPL to reach higher standards and set a new milestone in franchise cricket at the global level.
