Jasprit Bumrah

Indian veteran pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who wasn’t in his best form in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2025, made a strong comeback by adding another record to his illustrious test cricket career.

Hailed as the pace spearhead of the Indian cricket team, Bumrah became the fastest bowler to claim 50 test wickets in India. He achieved this rare record during the opening test of the 2-match series against the West Indies in Ahmedabad on Thursday (October 02).

The 31-year-old reached this milestone in just 1,747 deliveries and outbeat his teammate Mohammed Shami, who attained the same record in 2,267 deliveries.

Also, in terms of the innings played, Bumrah narrowly surpassed the legendary bowler Kapil Dev on the elite list to achieve this feat and equalled the record of Javagal Srinath.

Bumrah’s Regular Fashion to Reach the Landmark

Ahead of the game, Jasprit Bumrah, with 47 wickets to his name, required another three more scalps to achieve this landmark.

His unpredictable yorker was like a wild card that struck the stumps and bowled out the tailender Johann Layne.

Bumrah’s outside-off delivery easily broke the defense of a debutant and a youngster like Layne.

Before Layne’s wicket, Bumrah dismissed John Campbell (8 runs) and Justin Greaves (32 runs). He concluded the innings with impressive bowling figures of 3/42 in 14 overs (including 3 maiden overs).

Additionally, the contributions from Mohammed Siraj (4/40 in 14 overs), Kuldeep Yadav (2/25 in 6.1 overs), and Washington Sundar (1/9 in 3 overs) bowled out the West Indies to a below-average total of 44.1 overs.

However, Siraj set the foundation for a strong bowling attack, but it was Bumrah who wiped off the opponent’s batting unit in the second session. The duo of speedsters together claimed 7 wickets to restrict the West Indies tally below 200.

Bumrah’s Red Hot Form vs West Indies in Ahmedabad Test

The pace bowling combination of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj proved too tough for the visitors to tackle.

Siraj started the innings on an aggressive note by claiming three wickets instantly ahead of the lunch. But, Bumrah joined the show in the second session and bowled two exceptional deliveries to dismiss Justin Greaves and Johann Layne.

However, the team led by Shubman Gill turned out to be ruthless against the Windies. Although Siraj was the leading wicket-taker in the innings by claiming 4 wickets, Bumrah grabbed the spotlight by attaining a unique milestone and becoming the fastest Indian to achieve 50 test wickets at home.
