Recently, the ECB (England Cricket Board) has taken severe action against the professional coach. They suspended him from all forms of cricket for 6 months. The coach was found guilty of getting involved in inappropriate sexual behavior with a player under his supervision.
However, the CDC (Cricket Discipline Commission) has kept the identities unrevealed to protect the privacy of the coaches, players, and other members involved in this incident.
The incident took place during the pre-season tour of both men’s and women’s teams of an unspecified county in March 2024, which was categorized as one of the most offensive disciplinary actions.
ECB Charged Letter to the Coach for Violation
In May 2024, the ECB (English Cricket Board) charged the coach for violating the Professional Conduct Regulations. This rule states that a participant must not be engaging or involved in any sort of behavior that would harm the reputation of cricket or the players.
The letter was regarding the violation of rule 3.3 of the 2023 Professional Conduct regulations, which clarifies: “ A Participant shouldn’t carry out themselves in an act that is improper or might be destructive to the cricket sport. Also, any sort of improper activities will not be tolerated with might bring disrepute to the ECB or the game of cricket or the players.”
Again on 25th July 2024, the coach wrote a letter to the CDC, readily accepting and surrendering himself to the charges. As of now, the identities of the coach, player, and other persons associated with this case are not revealed.
Evidence reviewed by the Cricket Discipline Commission
This has been kept confidential to protect the individual who is affected. According to the recent reports gathered, it is said that the CDC (Cricket Discipline Commission) has reviewed all the evidence including call logs, messages, and interview conversations between the coach and player.
Interim Director of Cricket Regulator about the coach’s behavior
Dave Lewis, the temporary director of the Cricket Regulator, had expressed his views about the coach’s inappropriate behavior.
Lewis said: “Yeah! The Cricket Regulator is attempting to maintain the safety of all participants by preventing unacceptable sexual behavior. Especially in cases where it is committed by a person in a position of power or trust. The regulator must recognize and make it easier for participants to feel confident about reporting these violations and issues. And we will always try to keep it confidential, as to protect the identities of victims and potential eyewitnesses.”
Coach punished with a BAN of 6 months.
With reference to the improper sexual behavior with a player under his supervision, that coach was banned from all formats of the cricket sport. He is banned for a period of 6 months, of which 3 months have already been carried out. The second set of 3 months is suspended for 2 years of time in which the coach will be observed.
However, the future conduct of the coach will be taken into account after keen observation. In addition, the CDC (Cricket Discipline Commission) has not imposed any fine on the coach as they have considered the financial situation of the coach and his family.
According to the reports obtained, it is said that the coach had sincerely apologized for his behavior and actions. Moreover, he has undergone safeguarding training, which also includes checking and gaining an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service).
The coach, whose name has not been revealed due to privacy protection, is suffering a financial loss. He has lost his job, and the cricket discipline commission has decided not to affect his mental health by charging a fine.
When did the Coach behave inappropriately with the player?
The incident of the coach misbehaving in an improper sexual manner took place during a pre-season tour for the men’s and women’s teams. The name of the county, coach, and the victim (player) is not revealed to maintain privacy and not be an embarrassment to their family or relatives.
However, the coach’s unethical act has raised several concerns and led to an investigation upon which he was found guilty of having committed the mistake. The ECB (England Cricket Board) had investigated and confirmed that the coach’s actions were completely against the “2023 Professional Conduct Regulations”.
Additionally, the coach himself wrote to the Cricket Discipline Commission, accepting the wrong act, and he was banned for 6 months.
Despite collecting all the details of messages, call logs, and interview conversations, the CDC (Cricket Discipline Commission) did not release the evidence. They decided it because the coach admitted his mistakes and accepted the punishment.
