Sanskriti Gupta, Niki Prasad, And Sarah Bryce’s WPL Debuts You Need To Know!

WPL

Sanskriti Gupta, Niki Prasad, And Sarah Bryce are the three young players who recently marked their debuts in the second match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC).

After a thrilling 202-run chase on the inaugural night of the WPL 2025, a target of 165 runs seemed challenging for DC on the same pitch. However, the two-time runner-up secured a 2-wicket victory in a last-ball thriller of the game against MI.

Let’s delve deeper to know the notable accomplishments of these debutants and their performance in the nail-biter contest on February 15 (Saturday) at Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.

Sanskriti Gupta (Mumbai Indians)

Hailing from Madhya Pradesh, Sanskriti Gupta has played 24 List A matches for the state team representing various levels such as the Under-19, Under-23, and senior levels. She claimed 32 wickets and accumulated 197 runs averaging at 19.69.

Most importantly, the 20-year-old made a noteworthy contribution for Bengal as a right-arm off-spinner in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2024-25 claiming 5 wickets in 7 matches. Particularly, she played a crucial role in Madhya Pradesh’s Senior Women’s ODI Trophy triumph, where she bagged 16 wickets in 9 matches of the tournament.

Having been signed by the inaugural season champions Mumbai Indians for INR 10 lakhs during the WPL 2025 auction, the youngster is expected to add a new dimension to the squad.

However, Sanskriti’s debut reflects her lack of luck scoring just 2 runs out of 5 balls faced. The left-handed batter’s mistimed shot allowed DC skipper Meg Lanning to take a fine catch in the 18th over of the first innings bowled by Minnu Mani. Unfortunately, the young debutant’s innings concluded before converting her starts into huge runs.

With 7 more matches to go ahead of the playoffs, there is still a possibility left for the promising talent to make a comeback and prove her mettle. Apart from her role as a lower-order batter, Sanskriti has a huge opportunity to play a major role in spin bowling duties for MI along with Hayley Mathews, Amelia Kerr, and Saika Ishaque.

Niki Prasad (Delhi Capitals)

It was a memorable debut for the Under-19 World Cup-winning captain Niki Prasad as she bagged her first Player of the Match award in WPL. The 19-year-old spin bowling all-rounder held her nerves in a tricky run chase scoring 35 runs out of 33 balls (including 4 fours) at a strike rate of 106.06. She arrived to bat when her team was struggling at 76/4 in 8.5 overs and ensured her presence at the crease till the penultimate ball of the 20th over.

With 10 runs required to score from the last over, the right-handed batter smashed a four off the first delivery bowled by Sajeevan Sajana. Furthermore, she reduced the equation to two out of two by scoring 4 runs in the next three balls. Despite her dismissal in the same over, DC won the match as Arundhati Reddy grabbed a quick double run off the last ball.

Niki’s efforts to grab singles and doubles along with striking a few calculative boundaries under pressurized situations is a signal of a big chance to speeden up her breakthrough to become an international star cricketer.

Having represented the Karnataka team in domestic cricket, the young cricketer appeared in 27 List A matches that included Under-19, Under-23, and senior level. Also, she recorded a century and two half-centuries to her name. Surprisingly, Prasad appeared in four T20s but got a chance to bat only in this innings.

Sarah Bryce (Delhi Capitals)

Sarah Jennifer Bryce, the Scottish cricketer is the sister of the Scotland national team’s all-rounder Kathryn Bryce, who represented Gujarat Giants in the previous WPL edition.

As the senior Bryce misses out on the current edition, Sarah would cherish her debut in the league’s third season. The wicketkeeper batter proved to be a game changer in DC’s challenging run chase, scoring a quick-fire 21 runs out of 10 balls (including 2 fours and 1 six) at a strike rate of 210.00 and stitched a crucial 31-run partnership with Niki Prasad.

The below-tabulated stats prove that the 25-year-old experienced cricketer boasts an incredible track record in the white ball format of women’s international cricket (in ODIs and T20Is):
