Shakib Al Hasan

Recently, BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) served legal notice to Shakib Al Hasan, the former captain of Bangladesh for reportedly being accused of murdering garment factory worker Mohammad Rubel.

FIR Filed against Shakib Al Hasan

Along with 140 others, an FIR was filed on former Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan during the riots this month which led Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to leave the country due to the uncontrollable position of the nation. BCB president Faruque Ahmed has confirmed that the first test is being held in Rawalpindi. And, soon after the Bangladesh vs. Pakistan match, a serious decision will be made regarding Shakib Al Hasan.

The victim Mohammad Rubel was murdered on 5th August 2024 in Adabor, a neighborhood in Dhaka. Following the incident, the garment factory worker Rubel’s father along with lawyers have filed a complaint with a written request to the Bangladesh Cricket Board for immediate removal of Shakib Al Hasan from all cricket forms.

Advocate Mohammad Rafinur Rahman and lawyer Shajib Mahmood Alam took that to the next step by serving a legal notice to BCB through a registered post and an email regarding Shakib’s removal from all formats of cricket.

Why was Shakib Al Hasan named for Mohammad Rubel’s Death?

A bullet hit Mohammad Rubel during the protests held in Dhaka for which Bangladesh all-rounder cricketer and Awami League party’s member of parliament Shakib Al Hasan is being named. Also, Rubel’s father went on to accuse several other political leaders of the Awami League Party which included Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina who has left the country in unstable condition.

What was Shakib Al Hasan doing on the date of Mohammad Rubel’s Death?

Shakib Al Hasan was playing in the 2024 Global T20 Canada League Cricket for his team Bangla Tigers Mississauga on the date of Mohammad Rubel’s death i.e., 5th August 2024. Although Shakib was not involved directly in this matter, he is a member of parliament from the Awami League Party which is the cause for Rubel’s death. That is the reason Rubel’s father had accused Shakib of his son’s death and Supreme Court lawyer Shajib Mahmood Alam sent a legal notice to the BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) on 24th August 2024 about the immediate removal of Shakib from all forms of cricket.

Will Shakib Al Hasan remain in the National Cricket Team?

NO! Shakib Al Hasan will no longer remain in the national cricket team, which is further strongly confirmed in compliance with the ICC (International Cricket Council) rules and regulations.

Also, the notice served to BCB demands Shakib Al Hasan return to Bangladesh as soon as possible to help the murder case move forward with further investigations.

Decision about Shakib’s Future to be taken before the 2nd Test against Pakistan: BCB President Faruque Ahmed

The recently selected BCB president Faruque Ahmed had a serious discussion with a few directors of the board during a meeting held at the Shere Bangla National Stadium. Also, having stated that they are yet to receive any notice, they confirmed taking a call on Shakib before the 2nd Test of Bangladesh vs Pakistan is set to begin on 30th August 2024 in Rawalpindi.

Right after the meeting, BCB president Faruque Ahmed said that:

“See! Firstly, a case has been lodged against Shakib Al Hasan, and we are yet to receive legal notice. As of now, there has been an FIR charge i.e., the first information letter regarding this case and further investigations will be conducted. Following that, it will be decided on which direction the case would be moving,” Faruque Ahmed said.

BCB President Faruque Ahmed about removing Shakib from the Middle of the Test Match

Also, Faruque further added “Yes! We are currently playing a Test match, and it is good news that we were able to perform well on the 4th day. However, we all are waiting for the 5th day tomorrow which would be the deciding factor of the Test match. After the match is completed tomorrow, we will sit to discuss this matter and take a firm decision. Also, by that time we will be able to declare something as we are yet to receive the legal notice.”

Faruque spoke about the FIR saying:

“Look! First, you need to be aware of the fact that it is only the FIR — first information letter, so they haven’t claimed any charges, and it is tough to decide on this before we are yet to receive the notice. In addition to that let me confirm that the relationship between BCB (Bangladesh Cricket Board) and Shakib is more like relation between an employer and a player which is as per the contract. Only after tomorrow’s test and after receiving the legal notice, we will be able to think of doing next. Until then, I won’t be able to remove Shakib Al Hasan from the middle of the Test match,” Faruque Ahmed additionally revealed a few more facts.
